As founder and executive director of the online portal MyCareer.com.mk, Dr. Visar Ademi trains candidates in Skopje, the Republic of North Macedonia, to obtain the Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) credential for the Center for Credentialing & Education (CCE). His knowledge of career training and development has enabled him to work as a consultant in countries including the United States, Tunisia, Istanbul, Albania, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Tanzania. Recently Dr. Ademi has worked with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) in Tunisia to help strengthen the capacities of career centers at higher education institutions.
Before becoming a CCE-Approved Training Provider in 2011, Dr. Ademi researched public and private business sectors for USAID and other organizations, recognizing that the need for effective career counseling was far-reaching.
“USAID encouraged us to set up our own NGO (non-governmental organization), so in 2012 we created MyCareer, which connects the private sector with educational institutions,” he said. Dr. Ademi helps to create internship and job placement programs, and recruitment strategies.
After learning about CCE’s GCDF credential, Dr. Ademi was impressed by the competencies and skills that career counselors gained from obtaining it.
“The GCDF provides a set of skills to career coaches to support a young student or recent graduate to better help with career choices, career development programs, training, and to boost their confidence. It goes beyond just teaching professional skills.”
The response to his training efforts has been favorable.
“Whenever we train people, we get very positive feedback. This training and the credential help them to better understand the process and the model.”
More than 14,000 individuals in the U.S. have become GCDFs, with more than 30,000 others in 23 countries. Dr. Ademi hopes to broaden the opportunity to obtain the credential in other areas, he says.
“I’d advise anyone interested in becoming a GCDF training provider to obtain the credential, because it’s one of the best programs I’ve come across in my research. It’s very good at providing the necessary skills for building career development.”
