Since 2014, the Center for Credentialing & Education (CCE) has helped the North Carolina Board of Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselors (NCBLCMHC) to fulfill its mission of supporting licensed counselors and applicants and ensuring the safety of the public by setting ethical and professional standards.
Melonie Davis, MA, NCC, LCMHCA, became the executive director of NCBLCMHC in January 2022.
“The work we do is important; we are in a position to provide support to licensees and applicants,” Davis says. “Our work also positively impacts those who seek mental health care via the implementation of policies created to protect the public.”
In addition to developing standards of preparation and regulating the activities of individuals who provide counseling services to the public, the NCBLCMHC facilitates the application process for licensure candidates, reviewing transcripts, examination scores, and supervision reports. The board also provides ethical guidance and processes complaints.
The regulations and policies established and enforced by the NCBLCMHC are essential for counselors to understand best practices and hold the highest standards, Davis says.
“Our board is working hard to positively impact the profession by developing rules that help to produce clinically informed counselors while holding true to the board’s mission to ensure the protection of the public health, safety, and welfare.”
