Requirements for the GCDF


Education and Experience

A combination of the following education and experience is required. Documentation for the highest educational level completed must accompany your application. Experience must be obtained after high school education or GED completed.

Graduate Degree1400 hours (estimated 1 year)
Bachelor's Degree2800 hours (estimated 2 years)
Two Years of College4200 hours (estimated 3 years)
High School Diploma / GED5600 hours (estimated 4 years)
Career development experience is required for each educational level.
An Experience Form is enclosed in this packet.


Training Required


An applicant has two options for obtaining the required training:

1.  Complete 120 hours of training in the 12 GCDF competency areas from a training provider using a curriculum approved by CCE. A listing of approved curriula providers can be viewed here.

OR

2.  Be qualified as an instructor approved to deliver a CCE approved curriculum.


Provisional Status


There are two ways to apply for a provisional two year certificate:

1.  You meet the required combination of education and experience, but have not completed the 120 hour training in the GCDF competency areas. If approved for provisional status, you have two years to complete the required training with a CCE approved provider.

OR

2.  You have completed the 120 hour training by a CCE approved provider but are lacking experience hours in the GCDF competency areas. You must fully document the required experience hours within two years.


Consultation / Supervision


Consultation/supervision must be sought at any time you have concerns, questions or doubts that you may be practicing outside of your competency/training. Note: Consultants or supervisors are considered to be licensed or credentialed professionals, such as counselors.



GCDF Code of Ethics


You must carefully read the GCDF Code of Ethics in this packet. A statement attesting that you agree to follow this Code of Ethics is included on your GCDF Certification Application Form.

Review fee to convert a 2-year to a 5-year certification$35.00
