DCC Credential Maintenance

The DCC certification is valid for a five-year period. The expiration date for the certification will be July 31st, five years from the initial certification date.

To maintain your DCC credential, you must pay your annual maintenance fee every year and recertify at the end of the 5 year period.

Annual Maintenance Fee

The maintenance fee is $35.00. You will receive a renewal notice once a year around the 1st of June. Failure to pay this fee may result in your credential being inactivated. If your credential becomes inactive, you will need to submit a Reinstatement Application along with a $50.00 reinstatement fee and all past due fees.

Recertification/Continuing Education Requirements

Recertification is necessary every 5 years. In order to recertify, you will need to be able to document completion of 20 hours of continuing education activities during your five-year certification period.

  • Acceptable continuing education activities include workshop, in-service training, conference attendance or coursework.

  • Fifteen (15) of the 20 hours can be in a counseling or related mental health field area. A minimum of five (5) hours must be focused on distance counseling.
  • An hour of continuing education is defined as one hour of actual participation in a continuing education activity, exclusive of breaks and meals. One semester hour of college credit is equivalent to 15 hours.
  • Proof of continuing education is required upon request by CCE. Acceptable forms of documentation include: certificates or letters of attendance, transcripts and grade reports.

Ethics Adherence

You must adhere to the NBCC Code of Ethics and NBCC Ethical Requirements for the Practice of Internet Counseling at all times. You will be required on an annual basis to review and attest that you have adhered to these Ethical Codes when you receive your statement of annual maintenance fees.
