ACS Credential Maintenance

The ACS certification is valid for a five-year period. The expiration date for the certification will be August 31, five years from the initial certification date.

To maintain your ACS credential, you must pay your annual maintenance fee every year and recertify at the end of the 5 year period.

Annual Maintenance Fee

The maintenance fee is $35.00. You will receive a renewal notice once a year around July 15, and the fee will be due by August 31. Failure to pay this fee may result in your credential being inactivated. If your credential becomes inactive, you will need to submit a Reinstatement Application along with a $50.00 reinstatement fee and all past due fees in order to reinstate your credential.

Recertification/Continuing Education Requirements

Recertification is necessary every 5 years. You will receive a recertification notice around July 15 of the recertification year along with your renewal notice. In order to recertify, you will need to be able to document completion of 18 hours of continuing education during your five-year certification period.

  • Continuing education must be specific to clinical supervision.
  • Documentation of up to 9 hours of supervision of your work as a clinical supervisor can be applied toward the 18 hour continuing education requirement.
  • Failure to submit the signed recertification attestation, payment and any requested continuing education documentation by the expiration date on the certificate may result in expiration of your certification. If your credential expires, you will need to submit a reinstatement application, $50.00 reinstatement fee, documentation of 18 hours of continuing education, and full payment of any past due balance in order to reinstate your credential.

Ethics Adherence

In addition to following the Code of Ethics of their mental health credentialing body, approved clinical supervisors shall adhere to the ACS Code of Ethics. You will be required on an annual basis to review and attest that you have adhered to these codes of ethics when you receive your renewal notice. The ACS Code of Ethics is available here.
