Telemental health is a rapidly growing field spanning across multiple mental health disciplines around the world. As such, professionals are looking for best practices and credibility to offer safe and effective services to their clients.

In conjunction with thought leaders in the field of telemental health, the Center for Credentialing & Education (CCE) has developed the Board Certified Telemental Health Provider (BC-TMHP) certification.


Providing services electronically requires additional training in best practices, ethics and state laws. The BC-TMHP training is based in established credentialing industry standards and processes, evidence-based practices, and a rigorous review of the professional literature. The certification is under review by a diverse panel of industry experts and practicing telemental health providers from all mental health disciplines, academia, government regulatory agencies, licensure boards and health insurance organizations.

Professionals

The BC-TMHP certification was designed for:

  • Counselors;
  • Addictions counselors;
  • Marriage and family therapists;
  • Social workers;
  • Psychologists;
  • Psychiatrists;
  • Recovery coaches; and
  • Related social services staff.

Credential Requirements

The BC-TMHP requires:

  1. Approved training in telemental health provision.
  2. Successful completion of a written knowledge assessment.
  3. A commitment to abide by established industry standards of care and laws in telemental health
  4. Continuing education to maintain the certification.

Additional requirements also apply to maintain the certification.


Telemental Health Training Content Areas

This certification is designed to progress with the industry. Through a formal job analysis process and ongoing literature reviews, CCE will regularly review and update training content and requirements to ensure that the BC-TMHP reflects best practices found in the academic literature and in active practice.
